Re: drive shaft u joint replacement Post by TONY4848 » Wed Feb 08, 2012 12:08 pm Good Point Koshman, I think sometime we forget that a lot of members probable work at dealership and are just doing what the rest of us are doing, trying to make a good living and raise a family. also the drive shaft is two pieces and if the nut in the center is loose that can also make the same noise check those first you may not have to remove the drive shaft but if you do make sure to mark the shaft so that it installs the same direction and when it is out check the u-joint if it is not free and smooth replace it and balance the shaft

May 21, 2013 · I don't believe you can replace just the U-Joints. You have to replace the entire drive shaft. As Manx said, MSI will do a U-joint replacement if that's what you need for around $250. I'm sending my friend's to Bruno's in Canada who can replace them as well as repair the yolk after a failure (costing around $400).
I had to replace the entire driveshaft on my G1900 after I bought it used several years ago. Someone before me had butchered a u-joint replacement and it trashed the yokes. The whole shaft assembly cost me ~$200 then, so I am surprised it's almost double that now.

It's a lot of work, a used shaft will probably last 100,000 miles, I had one shipped for about $130 total cost. You can use a non-H6 shaft. I often have to fight my impulse to fix everything, especially if it's going to be an adventure! We've tried many used shafts, almost all have notchy joints.
